"Forest" offers a snapshot of folk traditions - and their substantial influence - for a number of today's artists in Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Belarus, and Ukraine.
Beginning with some sounds captured in the Estonian countryside - and the inherent music of a rural location - this album then moves through a broad selection of performance contexts.
We hear the echoes of tradition both cherished in lofty urban venues and then drowned out by the same busy, modern locations. The meaning of tradition moves in and out of earshot, through spaces both public and private, real and imagined.
